Jerry "The King" Lawler

Jerry "The King" Lawler turns 71 today! How many of you knew that the King is also a talented artist? Here is the proof! I think Lawler could have easily made a living drawing comic books or working for MAD magazine had his wrestling career not been so successful!

Funny portrait of Freebird Michael Hayes! I love the expressions of his fellow Freebirds and Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin in the background, laughing at Michael's free-spirited silliness.

Gotta love this self-portrait of Jerry Lawler as the Eighth Wonder of the World; it's even referencing the 1977 King Kong remake instead of the original.

Jerry's artistic talents are what first got him in to the world of wrestling; he would send in drawings of Memphis wrestlers like Jackie Fargo to Aubrey Griffith, the local promoter. He eventually worked out a deal with Griffith—free publicity on Lawler's radio show (he was a disc jockey at the time) in exchange for wrestling lessons. Not a bad deal if you ask me!

Jerry Lawler & Friends

Jerry “The King” Lawler makes the cover of Teen Beat magazine! What do you think his special message would be? You'd think the jokes would write themselves here! Girls, you can also win a date with the Fabulous Ones in their van of love and that is NOT sketchy in the slightest! I don’t want to know what happened on Missy Hyatt’s date with Tommy Rich! Ricky Morton is better-looking than Robert Gibson, but I would have figured out a nicer way to put it than the Teen Beat editors did! Maybe not…

Jerry Lawler: Wimp Buster

Who you gonna call? WIMP BUSTERS! Jerry "The King" Lawler sings "Wimp Busters" over the instrumental track to Ray Parker Jr's Ghostbusters theme song! Lawler had been waging war with Jimmy Hart's First Family faction, in which he frequently busted Jimmy right in the Mouth of the South. This video featured some of the King's best busts of the onetime GENTRYS vocalist turned wrestling manager, showing that Lawler ain't afraid of no wimps!
